Self Referral Process

Complete the form above

Once we receive your referral, our team will review the information to make sure our service is the right fit for your needs.

Initial Review

Once we receive your enquiry, one of our Duty Supervisors will contact you by phone or email to gather some additional information and complete our referral form with you.

Self Referral Process

This conversation helps us to:

  • Understand your current needs and circumstances.

  • Ensure we have the information needed to process your referral.

  • Which one of our  locations would suit you best.

  • Check whether our service is the right fit for you.

  • Discuss any immediate support needs or risks.

  • Answer any questions you may have about counselling.

We carefully review every referral to ensure our counsellors have the appropriate skills and experience to support you safely and effectively. If we feel another service would be better placed to help, we will provide information and signposting to alternative support where possible.

Allocation to a Counsellor

Following the assessment, our Duty Supervisor will decide on the most appropriate support and allocate you to a counsellor.

Appointments are generally offered in the order referrals are received, although urgent situations may be prioritised where possible. If demand is high, you may be placed on a waiting list until a suitable appointment becomes available.

If your referral is suitable, we will invite you to an assessment appointment with one of our volunteer counsellors.

For young people under 18, parents or carers may be involved in the initial assessment process.

This appointment helps us to:

  • Learn more about what is bringing you to counselling.

  • Discuss your goals and expectations.

  • Explain how our service works.

  • Make sure counselling is the right support for you at this time.

Starting Counselling

Once your assessment has been completed and you have been allocated to a counsellor, your counselling sessions can begin.

Our aim is to provide a safe, supportive and welcoming environment where you can explore the issues that matter to you in a safe, confidential and supportive setting.

Need More Information?

If you have any questions about our referral process or would like to discuss whether counselling is right for you, please get in touch with our team. We are happy to help.
